Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Katy from A Few More Pages. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.
Today's beginning is from Naughty in Nice, A Royal Spyness Mystery, by Rhys Bowen. For any of you who have not read any of this series the main character is Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie, daughter of the second Duke of Glen Garry and Rannoch and thirty fourth in line to the throne of England. All that means is that she has no money and is not allowed to work. The books are set in the 1930's. Here is the beginning of Naughty in Nice.
Just a small spoiler. In the next paragraph we find that Georgiana is looking at a poster of the Riviera while working in a soup kitchen in Victoria Station. This is a really fun series that includes real people from the era with fictional characters who solve mysteries.
You have introduced me to a new series which looks like a good read!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blogs and following. It's lovely to meet you and read about your life and I shall be following you too. All the best for 2012.
Oh, this does sound like a fun series! Love the cover, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
Hi Jo,
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a real fun read for a winter's day.
I just love the tag-line, 'A Royal Spyness Mystery'.
When I think back to some of the series of cozy mystery books and television adaptations I have come across in the past, it is surprising just how many of these amateur sleuths are titled nobility.
It just goes to show that these people are thought to have no money, too much time on their hands and no proper gainful employment.
Thanks for sharing.
Yvonne
Following you back. So nice to meet you! I love this visual, "The sun sparkled on a sea!" Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like fun. Here's the first line from the book I just finished today, "Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter": "The Rutherford girl had been missing for eight days when Larry Ott returned home and found a monster waiting in his house."
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with a little day dream now and then especially while working in a hot kitchen. This sounds like a fun series of books.
ReplyDeleteHope you, and your sweet cats, are having a great new year.
