Natural Evil by Thea Harrison

Paranormal Romance

Natural Evil by Thea Harrison is a ebook novella that is part of the Elder Races series.  It is a great story to tide you over until a new full-length novel comes out.

Claudia is a very strong female, former Special Services, who has some paranormal talent, not much, but enough to help her get an very large injured dog she finds along the road into her car.  The dog has been shot.  She knows there is something about the dog that suggests it is more than it seems.  Luis is a a shifter whose alternate shape is a dog.  He is too injured to shift back when Claudia finds him.  He is younger than Claudia but knows she is what he wants.

For a short novella this has plenty of action, tension, and romance.  I would have liked a little more about to two and how they worked things out but all in all an enjoyable read. I hope we see a little more of Claudia and Luis in a future Elder Races novel.

Here is what Goodreads has to say about Natural Evil:

Claudia Hunter is on a road trip through the Nevada desert when she sees the body of a dog on the side of the highway. Pulling over to investigate, she quickly determines that the enormous animal is clinging to life. While working to save him with the help of the local vet, Claudia realizes there’s something about the creature that seems more. Other. Wyr. Which makes this case of animal cruelty attempted murder.

Too injured to shape shift, Luis Alvaraz is reluctant to tell Claudia what he knows about his attack, afraid it will only make her a target. But the sheriff is corrupt, and his attackers know Luis is alive and vulnerable. To make matters worse, a sandstorm is sweeping into town, and if they're going to survive the night, Luis will have to place all his trust in Claudia.

Warning: Take a gorgeous man temporarily stuck in the dog house, add a strong, take-no-prisoners woman, mix in encroaching enemies and a raging sandstorm and stir to combine. Enjoy with a freshly opened can of whoop-ass.

Samhain published Natural Evil by Thea Harrison in 2012.
