This week my Book Beginning is from The Haunting of Maddy Clare by Simone St. James. I won a copy from Dear Author. They had a contest featuring the RITA Finalist for the Best First Book Award. You could leave a comment and choose which book you would like to read. I had read several of the finalist and I choose The Haunting of Maddy Clare (one I had not read). I was the winner of the contest and The Haunting of Maddy Clare won Best First Book. So I am featuring a double winner this week.
Here is the book beginning:
"The day I met Mr. Gellis, I had been walking in the rain.
In the morning, unable to face another day alone in my flat, I wandered through the bustle of Piccadilly, the collar of my thin coat pulled high on my neck."
I just started the book (I am on page 35) and I have already been thrown a curve. I like books that are not predictable and The Haunting of Maddy Clare appears to be just that.
I may have added this book on GoodReads, the cover and premise sounds familiar. Anyways, thanks for sharing the opening! Glad to hear you're enjoying it so far :)

Here's MY FRIDAY MEMES POST
The premise definitely sounds interesting! I love movies with hauntings in them, but I don't think I've ever read a book about one! Thanks for sharing, I hope you have a great weekend!
