Some background: My son raided my shelves several months ago and has been returning the books a few at a time. One of the books was Steel Beach by John Varley. It is a book I picked up used, put on the shelf and never read. When he returned it he told me to read the first sentence, that it was a real eye catcher. What do you think?
"In five years, the penis will be obsolete," said the salesman."
"He paused to let this planet-shattering information sink into our amazed brains. Personally, I didn't know how many more wonders I could absorb before lunch."
Is this sci-fi? Dystopian? It sounds like it could be funny. That opening is definitely thought provoking! I'd read more just to find out why.
ReplyDeleteMy Friday post is from THE WHISKEY BOTTLE IN THE WALL.
