Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…Musing Mondays is sponsored by Should Be Reading.
• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!
Today I am rambling on something pertaining to books. A few days ago I got an email from an authors whose book I always read. She just had a new book in her current series released and she was writing to let all of her fans know that if we purchased the book at WalMart we would find a short story (50 page) featuring two side characters in the series in the back of the book. Now you only got the story if you purchased the book at WalMart. The short story was one where the fans had voted on which side character we wanted to have their own short story. The character I voted on was the one chosen for story so I wanted to read the story. The problem: I had already purchased the book and not at WalMart!!! So what to do. Can you guess?
I picked the book up at WalMart sat down on a bench in the store and read the story. I did not purchase another copy of the book. Did I do something wrong? I purchased the book so the author was not losing money. Was it fair for the story to only be available when you purchased in one place? I think the story will probably show up on Amazon and other sights in a few months for .99 or 1.99. Should I have waited until I could buy just the story? Let me know what you think.

I find nothing wrong with what you did. At the Barnes and Noble store they provide places to set and browse through books, that way you can decide if you want to purchase it or not. B&Ns is one of my favorite places to visit, because they encourage us to set a while and enjoy being surrounded by books. I love it...
ReplyDeletePersonally, I find it odd the short story was only in the Walmart edition. And no, since you already bought the book, I don't what you did was wrong.
