Science Fiction Romance
From Goodreads:
"It's a
night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the
massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the
nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be
alone.
Lilac is
the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a
young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than
they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work
together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek
help.
Then,
against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that
has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together
in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here
forever?
Everything
changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt
their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they
won’t be the same people who landed on it.
A
timeless love story, THESE BROKEN STARS sets into motion a sweeping science
fiction series of companion novels. The Starbound Trilogy: Three worlds. Three
love stories. One enemy."
These
Broken Stars is listed as a Young Adult novel but it is a wonderful read no
matter your age. Lilac is the
female main character and she is 16.
Tarver is the male main character and he is 18. I have to say that looking at the
experience both have they could have been easily been portrayed as being much
older. They both brought a lot of
life experience to the story
I loved
the way the novel was laid out.
The story is told from both Lilac’s and Tarver’s point of view. Each chapter is labeled either Lilac or
Tarver so you know before you start reading who is telling this part of the
story. Between each chapter you
see portions of someone questioning Tarver. You can tell that this is happening in the future.
This is
a tightly written and well-plotted story.
It is a love story but it is much more than that. It is a story of how two people survive
and grow under very challenging condition. It is part of a series but there is no cliffhanger. These Broken Stars tells a complete
story with a satisfying conclusion.
I loved
the name of the ship. Icarus fell
from the sky and the Icarus is destined for the same fate. What happens next kept me reading. These Broken Stars is a great SFR read
and a good addition to anyone’s SFR library.
Hyperion
published These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner in 2014.
I'm planning to read this one in the next few weeks, I've been seeing some amazing things about it. Thanks for the review :)
