Runaway
Colton by Karen Whiddon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This time it is Piper Colton who is the runaway. Everyone is still trying to find out who happened to her father and someone is framing her for the deed. She asks Cord Maxwell to help her clear her name. He makes a bargain with her and the story takes off from there. The introduction to the Colton family and much of the back story is in pervious books. Even so this can be read as a stand-alone. This is one of those series where there is a mystery that is part of the main plot in each book. The mystery is not solved here but it looks like it might be in the next book. I have been keeping up with the series and look forward to finds out where that missing Colton is. Goodreads did not have a cover for the book.
Cardwell Christmas Crime Scene by B.J. Daniels
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
We are back on the Cardwell Ranch. This time for Christmas and of course another mystery with some new characters. Dee Anna Justice has just learned that she has more family than her father who is in prison. When she arrives at the Cardwell Ranch she finds that her father has called in a favor and asked Beau Tanner to keep her safe. It seems that other half of her family (who she also did not know about) may want her dead. Daniels has written another interesting story set on the Cardwell Ranch.
Into the Guns: The First America Rising Novel by William C. Dietz
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
It seems that post-apocalyptic is the new rage and William Dietz has added a new addition. Into the Guns is book one in a new series. It has all the elements that make up this series. The destruction around the world is caused by a large meteors hitting the Earth. The story starts with a Army unit in the Pacific Northwest and follows them as everything falls apart then slowly starts to come back together. Into the Guns introduces the characters, sets up the world building, and brings the main plot point into focus. This is book one so it only goes so far. It just stops after one crisis is solved so book two and three for the rest of the story.
