The House of Daniel by Harry TurtledoveMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
I really liked this book. I listened to it on CD and will admit that if I had been reading it would probably have been a DNF. This is about baseball which I like and an alternate history which was interesting. Set in the 1930's after the big bubble has bust life is very hard and the main character Jack Spivey is having it harder than most. When he get into trouble with the boss in Enid, OK he lucks out and gets a place on the House of Daniel traveling baseball team. The world is viewed from Jack's eyes and according to Jack the rules for baseball are like the rules for life. Jack is a very likable character. In fact the entire book is filled with likable characters. This is alternate history where there are all of the paranormal creatures like vampires and zombies. These are not the main focus just around in the background. At one point I thought Turtledove had included everything except dragons. Then near the end there is a dragon in the San Diego Zoo. Recommended especially for base ball fans.
Colton Christmas Protector by Beth CornelisonMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.Finally a answer to a the mystery of what happened to Eldridge. That answer is wrapped around another mystery. Who killed Andrew, Reid's police partner, and why did was Reid Colton blamed. Does the fact that someone is trying to kill both Reid and Pen, Andrew'a widow, have a tie in to Andrew's death. Reid and Pen are nice characters and throwing a terrible two into the mix lightened up the story line. A nice finish to the story line. I did think that Eldridge's mysterious disappearance could have been solved sooner but it did give all the character's a chance for an HEA. Will stand alone but best if the series is read in order.
Those Texas Nights by Delores FossenMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review. I have been a fan of Delores Fossen for quite awhile. I expected Those Texas Nights to be very similar to her other books but boy was I fooled and in a very nice way. From the start when Sophie Granger is running in her wedding grown to the end of the book it was filled with laugh out loud moments. Sophie and Clay are really great characters who do not immediately fall into each others arms. The story is spread over months making the attraction more believable. There are several interesting and laughable characters but the best are the feral chickens. There is danger and tension in the story while allowing the humorous moments to blend into the plot. This is book one in a new series and I hope the humor continues into the next books.
