EXCERPT  

From the description she was given by the hotel desk clerk, she figured she wouldn’t have much trouble finding the guy—grungy black cowboy hat, well-worn cowboy boots, scruffy beard, jean jacket, and Levi’s, sitting at the corner table. She was right. He wasn’t hard to spot. It was Monday night, and there were only a handful of people in the place. There he was, sitting at his regular corner table, with his back to the wall, his chair up on two legs, and his feet propped up and crossed on the chair next to him. There was a glass of beer and a half-empty pitcher in front of him. She wondered how many pitchers he had drained before this one. The desk clerk said he had a lot of funny habits. The clerk said the guy always sat with his back to the wall, so no one could get the jump on him. He probably watched too many John Wayne movies.

I asked the author five places she goes for inspiration  Here is her answer:

 Clark, Wyoming. My first and favorite place is just walking on our property. We live in a rural part of Wyoming and every window in my house has a Rocky Mountain view. The scenery changes with the seasons. We own 50 acres and there is a creek that runs right through the middle. Through the years we’ve groomed a trail along the creek and made several little reflection areas where one can just sit and contemplate whatever is on their mind. I am a nature lover and try to incorporate that into my books. Whenever I feel stressed out or need to clear my mind or get inspired I just walk outside.

2Scotland. I just recently finished reading the Outlander series of books and seen the TV series on Starz. I have a Scottish friend who has been pestering me for years to join her on one of her many trips to Scotland. I’ve resisted until now. The scenery is both breathtaking and mystical. It’s the land of the fairies.  There is great tradition and superstition there. I am a believer in anything spiritual and think I could find a story there.

 Grand Canyon and 4 Corners. I’ve always wanted to see the Grand Canyon. I know that pictures don’t do it justice. I’ve also wanted to stand over the 4 Corners. I’ve heard that it has a special vibe. Sounds inviting to me. Living in the west I’ve learned a little about the history of the indigenous people who lived here long ago. I’ve visited Devil’s Tower and the Medicine Wheel and felt the power of the Old Ones.  I want to see if I can feel the spirit of the Canyon as well.

4 My brother’s house in northern Michigan. I was raised in Michigan and my brother lives in northern Michigan in a place called East Jordon. His property is hidden in acres of trees. For years he was off the grid depending on wind power, solar, and a log burning boiler. Recently his wind turbine broke down and because it was so old he couldn’t get parts for it. In the years since he has moved there, electricity was brought in up to his property line. He now has electric but still relies on the sun and his boiler. His property is a very peaceful place. Whenever I visit him we go to the highest point on his property and meditate together.  We also find peace in walking the shores of Lake Michigan.  As I’ve said before I find nature very inspiring.

5Nevada. This one is a little out of my comfort zone but for some reason, I got the cockamamie idea to write a book about a woman who opens up a spa/brothel for women. Since Nevada is the only state that has legal prostitution I am now going to have to visit the state and scope out locations. One would think that one need travel no farther than Las Vegas for that but in truth, prostitution is illegal in the city of Las Vegas. Legality is the in the jurisdiction of the County. I am fortunate in that I have a friend who lives in Las Vegas and has volunteered to chauffer me around looking for the perfect location for the book spa/brothel.  Should be an exciting trip.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

E.M. Bannock was born in 1950 and grew up in the Detroit suburbs. Her love for writing began during high school where she excelled in writing short stories and poetry. Born with the wanderlust, she found herself in Los Angeles, an exciting place to be in the early 70’s, and E.M. experienced all that it had to offer. It was here she met her husband. She has lived in California, Oregon, Alaska, Florida, and Wyoming, where she now lives with her husband, son, daughter-in-law, grandson and a menagerie of cats, dogs, chickens, and horses.
