A Night Like This by Julia Quinn is the second book in the
Smythe-Smith Quartet. I received an
eARC of A Night Like This from Edelweiss.
Both Anne Wynter and Daniel Smythe-Smith were introduced
near the end of the first book. I
guessed they would be the two to be featured and I was right.
Here is what Goodreads says about A Night Like This:
"Anne Wynter’s job as governess to three highborn young
ladies can be a challenge – in a single week she finds herself hiding in a
closet full of tubas, playing an evil queen in a play and tending to the wounds
of the oh-so-dashing Earl of Winstead. After years of dodging unwanted
advances, he's the first man who has truly tempted her, and it's getting harder
and harder to remind herself that a governess has no business flirting with a
nobleman.
Daniel Smythe-Smith might be in mortal danger, but that's not going to stop the young earl from falling in love. And when he spies a mysterious woman at his family's annual musicale, he vows to pursue her. But Daniel has an enemy, one who has vowed to see him dead. And when Anne is thrown into peril, he will stop at nothing to ensure their happy ending."

The story is wrapped up in a mystery. Daniel has enemies but so does
Anne. Part of the mystery and the story is
finding out who is after whom. It
did make for a good plot and it kept the story moving.
Daniel and Anne are both nice characters and their story is
entertaining. That said I did not
enjoy this story as much as I did the first one in the series, Just like Heaven. It still was fun to see all of the familiar
characters again.
A Night Like This is a pleasant read and fans of
historical romances and of Julia Quinn will enjoy it book. I will be looking for the next book in
the Quartet. I do like the
Smythe-Smith family and their musical.
Avon published A Night Like This by Julia Quinn in 2012.
Thanks for the review. I can't wait to read this book!
ReplyDeleteI've got this from Edelweiss, too. It's good to know that it's worth reading. I just need to get to it!
