Waiting on Wednesday May 2, 2012
"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
I just checked my Amazon orders to see if I had any orderes that were scheduled for delivery any time soon. I was thrilled to see that The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier: Invincible was scheduled for delivery early in May. So that is what I am waiting for.
i hdan't seen this before, it sounds really good!
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that Campbell has difficulty keeping momentum all the way to the conclusion of his sagas, a problem encountered in the ending to the previous Lost Fleet series as well. The battles are, as usual, awesome, but I wish there had been more of them, and less focus on the quirks of alien civilizations, which lack nuance, and remind me of science fiction from decades ago such as the Lensman series. There are also some patently hilarious moments, including a fun jab at his main character's gun-toting, incongruous covers (the Admiral never once holds a gun!). Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely, but readily admit that a large part of my enjoyment was due to an abiding love of the series and Hemry's writing in general. I'm continually impressed by his ability to write fun, exciting action which does not require de-activation of higher brain function to enjoy. Hollywood blockbusters could learn a lot.
