Book Beginnings October 4, 2013

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

My book beginning is from the current Science Fiction Book Club choice.  The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi  is an award winning book but many of the reviews I read on Goodreads said it was just depressing.  We will see if I finish or just quit like some.

"No! I don't want the mangosteen."  Anderson Lake leans forward, pointing.  "I want that one, there.........The one with the read skin and the green hairs."

I've heard mixed reviews, too...I'll be watching for your thoughts.

The opening lines are intriguing.

I've been meaning to check this book out after hearing about the awards it has won but haven't really gotten around to it yet. The opening lines are very curious, makes me wonder where they are and what they are doing.

Happy reading! My Friday Book Memes

New word for me, what's a mangosteen?

That's a crazy beginning!

This is the first week in a while I’ve had time to leave comments and not just fly by. Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings on Friday!

Strange beginning - but then it is science fiction. I'm not sure I like the choice on offer - whatever they are!

Hi Jo,

I was intrigued enough by those opening lines, to try and find out just what this book is all about. The synopsis is actually quite alluring, despite the fact that I just can't read science fiction ... I am even contemplating reading this one, just to assess once and for all, whether I can enjoy the genre or not .... best watch this space!

If nothing else comes out of it, I will have learnt a new word, so thanks for sharing.
