Nice Addition

Heart of Gold: A Novel (Montana Justice Book 3)Heart of Gold: A Novel by B.J. Daniels
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Two more the judge saved from a life in prison. They were friends and much more back then s when one is in danger the judge sends the other. An interesting story line with a surprise at the end. Lots of tension and danger with a romance at the heart of the action. Nice addition to the Montana Justice series.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Short and Sweet Book Reviews # 359 - Stroke of Luck by B.J. Daniels, The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal

Stroke of LuckStroke of Luck by B.J. Daniels
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really loved the plot in Stroke of Luck. I was in the dark about who did what and who was who for most of the book. The two main characters (Will and Poppy) have a history that is playing out as danger, tension and death stalk the Sterling Montana's Ranch season opening. This is a great start to a new series with Luck being a big part of the story. There is a small touch of the paranormal in the story line as there is one character who believes in curses.

The Calculating Stars (Lady Astronaut, #1)The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Calculating Stars title is a play on words and a very clever one. The setting follows what happens when a large meteor strikes the earth setting up the need to find a way off planet as this may be an climate cataclysm. The story follows Elma York, a math genius and WASP pilot as she works to get humans into space. I loved the detail in the story and Mary Robinette Kowal does a really great job reading her creation. The background shows that the author did a lot of research as she wrote the book. I also identified with Elma and her struggle to included as an astronaut. That made it a very difficult book to quit listening to. I love that this is book one in the series and that I can connect with Elma in future books.

Short and Sweet Book Reviews # 222 - Vegas Baby by Amy Brent, Tarnished Remains by Paty Jager

Vegas Baby: A Bad Boy's Accidental Marriage RomanceVegas Baby: A Bad Boy's Accidental Marriage Romance by Amy Brent
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

What I liked - The switch between the two main characters point of view. What I did not like was the number of misplaced and wrong words in the story. It looked like it was typed and sent without any one checking to see if the grammar was correct. There was also baby that came very early and went home the next day. The story line was interesting and I kept reading just to see how and when the HEA would occur. I would have been upset if I had paid for this instead of it being on Kindle Unlimited.

Tarnished Remains: Shandra Higheagle MysteryTarnished Remains: Shandra Higheagle Mystery by Paty Jager
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the Shandra Higheagle Mystery series. It worked well as a stand-alone. I liked the characters but did not like the voice of the reader. While the story was well planned the writing was a bit uneven at times.   Those two things kept me from enjoying the story as much as I should have. I did like the set up for a mystery in one of the next books.  It was very well done.  Even with my two dislikes it is a series worth listening too.
