Betrayed by Your Kiss by Laura Landon

Historical Romance

From Goodreads:

It should have been the happiest night of her life…

Lady Olivia Sheridan knows one thing: she has loved Lord Damien forever. But when her beloved is accused of fathering another woman’s child, Olivia’s world is shattered in ways she never thought possible. Especially when Damien’s accuser sets a huge price on his head, and Olivia discovers Damien’s death will be the only outcome…unless she does the one thing he will never forgive her for doing.

When Olivia’s plan to save him goes disastrously, dangerously awry, Damien doesn’t think he’ll ever see the light of day again and, with bitterness, he realizes that the woman he loves is capable of the ultimate betrayal.

Now, four years later, Damien has returned. His eye is on one thing: seeking revenge for what Olivia did to him. Only his heart may get in the way…

Because hell hath no fury…like a man betrayed.

I love Laura Landon’s books.  She puts an unusual slant to her stories making them unique and interesting.  Betrayed by Your Kiss does not disappoint.  This theme asked when is something done out of love a betrayal?

Lady Olivia Sheridan must live with her actions, action that were done out of love but were seen by Lord Damien as a betrayal.  She is strong enough to do just that.  It takes a very strong person to do that and she has that strength.

While Lord Damien sees betrayal it is apparant that he is way off base.  What he needs was a good kick in the head and in the end he gets one. There is a lot of good story before that happens.

Intimate Surrender by Laura Landon

Historical Romance

What Goodreads says:

"The bewitchingly beautiful Hannah Bartlett never meant to fall in love, and certainly not with a vicar. But when she meets Vicar Rafe Waterford, she discovers a warmth and tenderness she’s searched for her entire life. Not until it’s too late does she realize that Rafe holds more than the key to her heart; he possesses the power to destroy her—especially when he discovers who she really is.

For years, Vicar Rafe Waterford’s family has made every attempt to find him a wife and see him settled down. Yet, no lady has enchanted him enough to draw him into matrimony…until he crosses paths with the breathtakingly beautiful Miss Hannah Bartlett. Struck by her wit, her charm, and her heart overflowing with love and compassion, he relentlessly pursues her. But when he discovers the secret she’s kept from him, that she is Madam Genevieve, owner of London’s most famous bordello, their love is tested beyond all measure."

I like Laura Landon’s books.  She takes the historical setting and comes up with a different story.

World: The world of the ton just touches on the edges of this story.  This is the world of a woman who found herself on the street and did what she had to do to survive.  She is successful in her profession (the worlds oldest) and uses her success in a great way.  She still has friends who are part of society and that is where she meets Rafe and the problem starts.

Plot:  Landon uses a trope that has many possibilities. Hannah is a prostitute with a heart of gold. Rafe is a Vicar who is still looking for where he can do the most good.  There seems to be no future for the two.  Throw in some danger and anything can happen.

Tension:  Part of the tension is from a Vicar and a Prostitute ever getting together and having an HEA.  The other tension is from a very dangerous man who does not like what Hannah does with the money she earns.  Both are handled very well.

Characters:  Hannah does not fit the picture of a hard unfeeling woman.   In fact, she is drawn as a very caring person.  Rafe is a wonderful man who is trying to cope with what the woman he loves does.  Both are presented in a very sympatric light.  There are some important side characters that add to the story. There were hooks for some of those characters to have stories of their own.

Sex:  I know people get tired of me fussing about pages and pages of sex and how I just skim when I hit that part.  In spite of Hannah’s profession these is very little graphic sex in this novel.  This is not about sex it is about love and that keeps the story moving without all of those pages and pages that I skim.

Silent Revenge by Laura Landon

-->
Silent RevengeHistorical Romance
Silent Revenge was one of my picks from Amazon Vine in September.  When the book came I saw that Montlake Romance, the Amazon publishing company, was releasing it on October 16, 2012.  I have had hit and miss results with books they have published so I approached this one with caution.  All in all I found that I liked the story.  It was a quick and enjoyable read.

The premise is an old one.  Simon, The Earl of Northcote is broke and needs money to keep his estates.  Lady Jessica Stanton just found out that her stepbrother is alive and when she turn 25 in 6 days he will take everything she has unless she marries.  Of course Simon and Jessica marry and then the stepbrother tries to get rid of both.

Silent Revenge is a much told story but with a twist.  Lady Jessica has two secrets that have been shared with only a few trusted friends.  One she is deaf, something she has managed to keep from the ton.  She can read lips and rarely appears in public.  The other secret, she designs the dresses everyone wants to wear.

Simon, on the other hand is suspected of murdering his father and fleeing the country 3 years ago.  He has his own secrets and his own reasons for marrying Jessica.  Money is one but there is another that is more important to him than the money.

I liked both Simon and Jessica.  I did think the romance on Simon’s side was a little rushed.  Another thing I noticed was the lack of pages and pages of sex.  It was there but not in great detail.  For me that was plus as I usually end up skimming those scenes until I get back to the meat of the story.

Silent Revenge is not Laura Landons’s first book.  When I checked her web site I found that she has published at least four other romance novels.  She is an author to keep an eye out for.
