This is typical Nancy Kress as in nothing in the plot is typical. What starts as an accident war moves on to follow different characters as some try to win and some try to stop the coming action Interesting concepts, a different conclusion and a hard to put down story.

This may be Lt. Leary # 12 but it is really about Roy Olfetrie. Roy wanted to be in the RNC but his father's action changed his life and not in a good way. Knowing Daniel Leary's wife gets him an offer to go with Daniel and crew on a civilian mission. Of course there is more to the mission than meets the eye and Roy gets caught in the middle of it all. There is a saying out of the frying pan and into the fire and Roy's life is just like the saying. Captured and waking up on a tramp freighter, sold as a slave, making a daring escape, rescuing a lovely lady, and then fighting to save a planet keep our hero very busy. Watching Roy's interaction with Mundy and her shadow adds another dimension to those two characters. Another fun book in the series. I hated to get to the end as I was invested in the characters and wanted more of their stories.

Always a Lawman by Delores Fossen

Always a Lawman starts with what seems to be one crime but at the end finds that there were two separate crimes done by two different people. One is solved and one is left hanging. As always Fossen built two very interesting and strong main characters. Jodi Canton and Gabriel Beckett have a history even though they have not seen each other in 10 years. Jodi was the victim in one of the crimes and now it seems that the real killer has returned to finish the job. Gabriel's job is to protect her whether she wants him to or not. A nice blend of romance and danger. First book in this series and I look forward to the next one in the series.

Heaven’s Queen, book three in the Paradox series starts just like book two.  It just starts where book two stopped.  There is no transition.  The Paradox series is really just one very large book chopped into three parts.  I keep saying this in all of the review but this is really one where you want to start with book one and read in order.

Heaven’s Queen does come a conclusion and brings the series to an end.  All of the characters from the first two books are here in Heaven’s Queen and each plays a big part in the story.  Devi and Rupert are two main characters and they carry the story.  Devi is still trying to free the daughters and Rupert is by her side supporting her.

There a non-stop action.  Just as Devi and Rupert think they are home free another obstacle arrives and puts them in danger.  If you like a lot of action, a unusual universe (look at Devi’s love of her King), and the addition of hard won romance the Paradox series is one you should like.  Start at the beginning for a fun read.
