From Goodreads:
Three
years after her famous husband's death, Cordelia Vorkosigan, widowed Vicereine
of Sergyar, stands ready to spin her life in a new direction. Oliver Jole,
Admiral, Sergyar Fleet, finds himself caught up in her web of plans in ways
he'd never imagined, bringing him to an unexpected crossroads in his life.
Meanwhile,
Miles Vorkosigan, one of Emperor Gregor's key investigators, this time
dispatches himself on a mission of inquiry, into a mystery he never
anticipated; his own mother.
Plans, wills, and expectations
collide in this sparkling science-fiction social comedy, as the impact of
galactic technology on the range of the possible changes all the old rules, and
Miles learns that not only is the future not what he expects, neither is the
past.
If you are a fan of the Vorkosigan
Saga you will love this book. If
you have never read any of the Vorkosigan Saga you should skip Gentleman Jole
and the Red Queen for now and read the other books in the series first.
Cordelia and Miles are important
characters from the series and it was nice to visit with them again. Oliver Jole may have been mentioned in
previous books but he is not a character I was familiar with. New or old he really fits the
story.
I found the book to be a pleasant
read. The plot is very slow
moving. There is not that much
action or tension. There is a
romance that is not new and not old.
It does come with an interesting twist.
There is a lot of back-story
mentioned. I found reading it was like
a visit with old friends. Much of
the time you are reminiscing and the rest of the time you are catching up.
Don’t miss it if you are a
fan. Start at the beginning of the
series and by the time you get to Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen you will be
a fan and can enjoy the visit.
Been published Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen by Lois McMaster Bujold in 2016.
I received an ARC of Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen from Edelweiss in return for an honest review.
The book will be released in February of 2016.
