Not Boring

A Duke in Time (The Widow Rules #1)A Duke in Time by Janna MacGregor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read the prequel and really liked it. There I met the main characters in The Widow Rules series. As I started A Duke in Time I thought that I knew just what was going to happen and I settled down to be a little bored. That did not happen. I did not know what was going to happen and I was surprised to see all the different paths that Janna MacGregor took Katherine Vareck and Christian down. They did arrive where I expected but the journey was anything but boring.

Interesting Prequel

Where There's a Will (The Widow Rules #0.5)Where There's a Will by Janna MacGregor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A short and sweet prequel to Janna's new series. We meet the three ladies, three books, three ladies. We also meet additional characters who will be important to the series. We also see the problem all three have. What a mess. A plot full of fun. First book comes out this month and I have it on pre-order.

Short and Sweet Book Reviews # 323 - The Duke That I Marry by Kathy Maxwell, The Good, the Bad and the Duke by Janna MacGregor

The Duke That I Marry (Spinster Heiresses, #3)The Duke That I Marry by Cathy Maxwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It takes time to find out that you are made for each other. Nice ending to the Spinster Heiresses series. Willa wants what her friends have while Matthew needs money to keep his estate going. There was tensions and an added danger to their marriage. A nice mix of romance, misunderstanding and danger keeping the tension high. I liked how both worked to make their marriage work. Each admitting to some mistakes.

The Good, the Bad, and the Duke (The Cavensham Heiresses #4)The Good, the Bad, and the Duke by Janna MacGregor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An interesting play on Home Alone. For these two it means they have time alone. Daphne and Paul have a long history. Unfortunately for Paul it is full of mistakes that have turned friends to enemies. What he does not know is that Daphne sees him in a very different light from the rest of her family. A nice set up for turning Paul from a villain to lover. There is a element of tension and danger in the story leading to the interaction between the two. A fun plot with plenty of romance, tension, danger and great characters to keep the story going.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Short and Sweet Book Reviews # 239 - Reborn by Lance Erick, Luck of the Bride by Janna MacGregor

Reborn (Android Chronicles #1)Reborn by Lance Erlick
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It takes a long time to get to the conclusion. In fact it takes a lot of replay as Synthia Cross is reborn each time her maker turns her off and wipes her memories. It is a little like Groundhog Day as she slowly hides and requires her past. I did find that part a little repetitive. I liked Synthia and how she worked to find a way to be herself and have a set of values that protected her and caused no harm to others. She was in a lot of danger and she was good a splitting hairs but in the end she managed to make a future she wanted. There were several surprises that defined how she was created. A very original concept that is just the first in the Android Chronicles.

The Luck of the Bride (The Cavensham Heiresses #3)The Luck of the Bride by Janna MacGregor
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a three because I really did not like Michael Cavensham, the Marquess of McCalpin. He ignored Marsh and her sisters causing Marsh to struggle to make ends meet. He finally does the right thing only to crash and burn when March is accused of crimes against McCalpin. He was just not that great a hero. On the other hand I did like Marsh. She worked hard to keep her family together and to always put them first. The romance was second behind the crimes . It sounded like a better story in the blurb. Of course, in the end though there was a HEA even if I though Michael did not deserve one.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Short and Sweet Book Reviews # 96 -A Piece of My Heart by Sharon Sala, The Bad Luck Bride by Janna MacGregor, Saving Jake by Sharon Sal

A Piece of My Heart (Blessings, Georgia, #4)A Piece of My Heart by Sharon Sala
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Not everyone gets a second chance but for Mercy Dane it suddenly comes true. I loved Mercy and how strong she was. She told it like it was and had made a good life for herself even if you was alone with no family. She had strong friends and often did for others. When she arrived in Bessings, Georgia to give blood she found more than just a big thank you. A great story with great characters. This is book four in the series but works well as a stand-alone.

The Bad Luck Bride (The Cavensham Heiresses #1)The Bad Luck Bride by Janna MacGregor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What happens when a curse meets revenge? In the Bad Luck Bride two people find and then almost lose each other. Alex starts out looking for revenge and then realizes that he is about to destroy a innocent woman. Clair has had three engagements broken and is said to be cursed when Alex causes the fourth to also be broken. Both have a lot to learn about faith and truth. I liked Clair and though she let Alex off too easily. I was not that found of Alex and his drive to ruin Lord Paul. He just did not see the truth about how he felt about Clair until it was almost too late. The is the first book by Janna MacGregor and it is a good start to her writing career.

Saving Jake (Blessings, Georgia, #3)Saving Jake by Sharon Sala
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read the first chapters of Saving Jake in the back of book #4 of the Blessings, Georgia series and was hooked. I liked Jake from the beginning. He was back from war suffering from PTSD but trying very hard to get on with his life. Laurel Payne is recovering from her own tragedy. The two are not looking for a relationship and both feel that they are bring to much baggage to move on. It takes a little girl to bring them together. A nice sweet story that does a good job of showing how difficult coming home from the current war can be.
