Fills In Some Unknown Facts

Hearts and Stones (Celta HeartMate)Hearts and Stones by Robin D. Owens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Several of the stories in Hearts and Stones fill in holes left as the series has progressed. I enjoyed those. I was worried I would be lost as I have missed reading the later books in the series but I had no trouble with the stories or the characters. Seems I remember them all. The first story was my favorite. It is set on Earth at the time the starships were loading and leaving for Celta. I loved the main character and her cat but was left wondering what happened to the people left on Earth. There seems to be a lot of untold stories there.

Short and Sweet Book Reviews # 334 - Out of Time by Monica McCarty, Script of the Heart by Robin D.Owens

Out of Time (The Lost Platoon, #3)Out of Time by Monica McCarty
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read the first book in The Lost Platoon series when it came out and I missed the release of the second. I don't think it mattered. This one wrapped the series up and it seemed that it did it much sooner than I expected. Book One followed one member of the platoon and I expected Six books to follow each of the six members. Did not happen. While I liked the characters the action seem rushed and the solution also rushed. At the conclusion some things were still up in the air. I wondered if it just did not sell well and the series was cut short.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Script of the Heart (Celta HeartMates Book 15)Script of the Heart by Robin D. Owens
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is slightly different from the other Celta HeartMates books. The first difference is the title. This is the only one that does not have Heart in the title. While it is #15 in the series it takes place around book 8. Other than that its has all the other wonderful things. I loved the two FAMcats. The kitten was precious and the elder has just the right amount of snark. The two main characters come from a diverse background. One is a healer and one is a actor. That is the main conflict between the two. While there is a lot of attraction there is also quite a bit of distrust on the part of one. Love, not HeartMates is the theme. This was interesting and it kept my attention as the two worked toward a HEA.

Short and Sweet Book Reviews # 158 - Heart Sight by Robin D. Owens, The Earl Who Loved Her by Sophie Barnes, The Duke Who Came to Town by Sophie Barnes

Heart Sight (Celta's Heartmates, #15)Heart Sight by Robin D. Owens
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Muin “Vinni” T'Vine as been a part of the Heartmates series since he was 6 years old. Now he is grown and has a heartmate. Avellana is much stronger than she seems but Muin keeps trying to shelter her from danger. That is the heart of the story. There is danger to both Muin and Avellana. Danger comes from unexpected areas and they have to work hard to finally find and stop the person who wants Avellana dead. A nice addition but it did seem to a little long.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

The Earl Who Loved Her (The Honorable Scoundrels, #2)The Earl Who Loved Her by Sophie Barnes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Eve Potter is off to visit a friend when she takes a wrong turn. Eve is the second Potter sister to find her HEA. She leaves a day after her older sister left to take a job as a governess. Weather takes a hand in finding a HEA for Eve. Bryce Harlowe lives as a recluse but gives Eve a place to stay when a winter storm closes the roads. He is a nice man who is unjustly accused. He does not feel he deserves Eve but in the end all works out for the best.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

The Duke Who Came To Town (The Honorable Scoundrels, #3)The Duke Who Came To Town by Sophie Barnes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Josephine Potter has to keep her job to support her sisters. Then the unexpected happened and she had to make some changes in her life. Devon, the Duke of Snowdon, is a big part of that change. I liked Josephine and Devon. Both are strong characters who go for what they want and both have to make some changes as thing change. Josephine is the last Potter to find her HEA. This is a nice series with interesting characters and fun romances.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Short and Sweet Book Reviews #52 - Cowboy Unwrapped by Vicki Lewis Thompson, Ghost Maker by Robin D.Owens, The High Ground by Melinda Snodgrass

Cowboy Unwrapped (Thunder Mountain Brotherhood, #8)Cowboy Unwrapped by Vicki Lewis Thompson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It is Christmas and Jake Ramsey has come home to Thunder Mountain Ranch. For Jake home is where the heart is and he realizes that his heart is here where he grew up. Meeting up with his old high school flame, Amethyst Ferguson, turns out to be the start of a hot relationship. He would like more but Amethyst is determined to go off the LA to pursue her singing career. This is another heartwarming story. There is more than just romance involved. Part is following your heart and deciding what makes you feel successful and brings you joy in your life. Since it is Christmas some of the previous men of Thunder Mountain play an important part in the story.

Ghost MakerGhost Maker by Robin D. Owens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Clair and Zack are off on another dangerous assignment. This starts off with Zack looking for a missing street kid and Clair looking for a good ghost to heal her spirt wound. Then the two quests collide and become intertwined. Clair and Zack are still working on accepting the changes in their lives and the new love they feel for each other. This quest adds to the tension between the two as they come to terms with those changes. Part of the problem is how short a time they have been together; just a little over a month. There is a very lovely ghost and a very bad ghost that drive this story line that is different from the previous books. Both are part of the both the problem and the solution for our two new lovers. Great addition to the Ghost Seer story line. This can stand-alone but is best if you start with book one.

The High Ground (Imperials, #1)The High Ground by Melinda M. Snodgrass
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

There is a lot that is familiar in The High Ground. The setting is a military academy named The High Ground.. Trace, one main character, is there on a charity scholarship. Mercedes, the other main character, is the daughter of the Emperor. The first meeting between the two is accidental and neither knows who the other is. That changes as the two arrive on the first day. The Emperor has no sons and has made his daughter his heir. She is the first woman to go to the High Ground. Trace dislikes the upper class and did not want to take the scholarship. Both are a little off balance and find that they have more in common than you would suppose.

The action is predictable but very well done. Everything in the story helps set the stage for the next book in the series. In Evil Time, book 2, in The Imperials Saga will come out in July of 2017. I look forward to seeing both Trace and Mercedes again. After how the book ended it will be interesting to see how the two interact after they leave The High Ground.

Ghost Seer by Robin D. Owens

Paranormal Romance

From Goodreads:

There’s just something about Clare. Apart from the ghosts…...

When her eccentric aunt passes away, no-nonsense accountant Clare Cermac inherits more than just a small fortune. She receives the gift of communicating with ghosts. While Clare may not believe in spirits, it’s hard to overlook the shadowy talking dog appearing on her bed or spectral cowboys tipping their hats to her in the streets of Denver. And when she locks eyes with sexy—and living—Zach Slade, there’s certainly no ignoring him either.

A former deputy sheriff, Zach is leaving a painful past behind in Montana for a new life in Denver as a private investigator, a job that has him crossing paths with beautiful Clare. Not that she minds. After the restless ghost of a Wild West gunman demands her assistance, Clare finds herself needing Zach more and more—and not just for help.

Ghost Seer is the first book in a new series by Robin D. Owens. I enjoyed her Heart Mate series so I had high hopes for Ghost Seer.  I was not disappointed.

Much of Ghost Seer is character development.  Clare Cermac and Zach Slade are both facing changes in their lives.  Zach is a policeman who is recovering from a gun shot wound that has left him with a bad leg.  He does not want a desk job and so is at loose ends.  Clare’s aunt dies leaving her all of the aunt’s money and also her ablility to see ghosts.  The two meet and connect but there are problems.

There are also some very nice side characters.  Enzo is a ghost dog that is Clare’s helper or at least he thinks he is.  Mrs. Flinton is an older woman who also can see ghosts or at least Ezno.  Both add a nice touch to the book.

There is tension in the book.  For Clare it is trying to come to terms with her new ability.  For Zach it is accepting the change that his injury has brought to his life.  Then there is the growing attraction between the two.  Clare’s new ability adds to the tension between she and Zack.  There is also an external danger to Clare.  Someone thinks a ghost has told her about a hidden treasure.

All of this is part of the world building in Ghost Seer.  The story is set in Denver and Denver today and Denver between 1850 and 1900 are important parts of the story.  Character development and world building are the most important elements of Ghost Seer.  All blend together to make a great start for this new series.

I lived in Denver and having it set in a place I knew added to my enjoyment.  I am ready for the next book, Ghost Layer, due out in September of 2014.

The Beginning:

"The minute he walked through that door, Zach Slade's career, the one he loved, was over."

Page 56:

"My name, said the ghost, is Joseph Albert Slade, but his expression turned softer, sorrowful. My lovely wife never bore child; I never fathered one.

So whose career is over? Who is the ghost? I don't know yet but I do know where to find out. The answer is in Ghost Seer by Robin D. Owens. This is book one in a new series by Robin. I have been disappointed in several of her recent books but have high hopes for this one.

Waiting on Wednesday (WOW) November 23, 2011

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am down to three books on pre-order from Amazon.  Here is one that is scheduled to be shipped between December 12th and 16th.

Award-winning author Robin D. Owens returns to the futuristic world of Celta with four original romantic fantasies as four different couples find their HeartMates and their destinies on Celta.  It includes the discovery of Celta; an older couple story' Genista Holly Furze's new life and new love; and the Clovers win a noble title.

I love this series and have all the books.  This looks like it will have some great side stories in the Heart world.

Heart Journey by Robin D. Owens

Paranormal Romance

I don’t think I have ever seen two more mismatched HeartMates as the two in Heart Journey. Helena D’Elecampane spends her time in the wild mapping Celta. Raz Cherry is an actor who will never be happy away from the big city and the theater. Meeting these two you don’t think that love can conquer all. While they are drawn to each other and grow closer while working to solve a series of robberies in Raz’s family the differences in their lifestyles seem to be too much to overcome.

Heart Journey is a good addition the Celta novels. There is some very good new world building in Heart Journey. Robin Owens makes very good use of the robberies in Heart Journey to reveal more of the history of Celta. The additional world building works seamlessly into the story line. In addition to learning more about the world of Celta I think I saw several hooks for future stories set in the Celta universe. As I love this series I hope I am right about many more books about Celta and HeartMates. (I wrote this before I checked Robin's web site. There are more books planned but I did not guess right on who the next books will feature. Maybe the hooks I saw will come in later books.)

Berkley Sensation published Heart Journey by Robin D. Owens in 2010.

I purchased Heart Journey from Amazon.

(Am I the only one who thinks the cover does not match the contents of the book?)

Guardian of Honor by Robin D. Owens

Fantasy/Romance

Alexa Fitzwalter is an attorney with few ties to modern day Denver when she is pulled into Lladrana, a land where magic is the norm. She is called to rediscover lost magical skills and save Lladrana from an invasion of magical creatures. Her struggle in the new land is filled with pain, joy, romance and adventure. Guardian of Honor is the first of The Summoning Series books written by Robin Owens. I have read all of Robin Owens Heart books set on the planet Celta and found Guardian of Honor to be a nice counterpart to that series. If you are reading the Heart series and have not tried theThe Summoning Series books you are in for a treat.

Luna published Guardian of Honor by Robin D. Owens in 2005.

I checked Guardian of Honor out at the library.
