Short and Sweet Book Reviews # 268 - The Wild Dead by Carrie Vaughn, The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter by Theodora Goss

The Wild Dead (The Bannerless Saga #2)The Wild Dead by Carrie Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The world building and backstory were done in Bannerless, book one of the series. That means that The Wild Dead can concentrate on the plot and story line. Events unfold through the eyes of Enid of Haven. She is on what should be a simple assignment while she mentors Teeg a new investigator. Things do not work as planned. There is a murder and Enid is the one who has to work to solve it. This was a very tightly woven story line. I did catch on to the fact that helped Enid before she did. That did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. I also loved the look into Enid's group and getting to see their good news through her eyes.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter (The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club, #1)The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter by Theodora Goss
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I heard rave review about this book and they are deserved. I loved the mix of characters. Most are characters from book by other authors. Most are monsters. That does not keep some of them from being likable. The world building and back story are used to help solve a mystery and to introduce all the main characters. This was a fun and interesting read and I look forward to the next book in the series.  Kate Reading did a great job on the narration.
