At only 45 pages long Blue Yonder is a short story but one well worth reading.  Both Isabel Visconti and Daniel Morneau are great characters who have a past but have been apart for a long time.  Then a baby comes into the picture and they re-connect.  I liked both Isabel and Daniel but the scene-stealer is baby Jack.  There is a lot of action, tension and romance in this very well-written story.  I loved the surprise at the end.  I would love to see a follow up to the surprise set later in the lives of Isabel Daniel and Jack. (Just a hint:  Wanting more is the sign of a very good story.)

Contemporary Romance Novella 

I have read and reviewed Diane Dooley’s Science Fiction Romance stories and enjoyed them all.  I knew she could write and tell a good story.  When she asked if I would like a copy of her contemporary romance novella, That Night, I said yes.

That Night is the story of what can happen when a one night stand is not enough for one of the parties.  Lindy has a rule, no dating a co-worker but she breaks it one night when she has too much champagne.  Her way of coping is to play like nothing happened.  Alex has different ideas.  He bides his time until both are snowed in a remote cabin just before Christmas.  Then he begins his attack.  What follows is fun and entertaining.  I said Diane Dooley could write and while I would have preferred another SFR I really enjoyed That Night.  

That Night is only 44 pages but it manages to tell the complete story of two people who need to give their relationship a chance.  Pick it up for a good entertaining short read.  That Night is an ebook.

This is book 2 in the Blue Universe series.  I have been waiting for this to come out and jumped on it when Netgalley offered an ARC.  Read Blue Galaxy first to see what came before.

Mako's Bounty by Diane Dooley

Diane Dooley has packed a lot of romance in a 31 page short story.  Mako needs to capture Vin Sainte and collect his bounty to pay off her debt and free her mother.  She had spent the last 9 month tracking Vin.  She thinks she has him cornered at Madame Eve’s exclusive 1 Night Stand  dating agency.  But of course nothing is quite what it seems.

We have everything in this short story.  A bad girl who is not as bad as she thinks she is, a sexy man who is not a space pirate but is leading a rebellion, an evil corporation and just enough world building to keep the story going.  And like Blue Galaxy, a previous Diane Dooley review, there is an unexpected ending.  Be sure to pick this one up.  It is a short fun read.

Blue Galaxy by Diane Dooley

Science Fiction Romance

If you like Science Fiction Romance this is a must buy.  In Blue Galaxy Diane Dooley has written an action packed story that flows smoothly from start to finish. The world building compares favorably with some of the best full-length novels. Every action fits within the context of the story and the action drives the story while it reveals the personalities and secrets of the two main characters, Javan and Sola. Diane does not waste a single one of the 22,000 words that keep this story moving and on track.  After finishing Blue Galaxy I felt that it could have been expanded into a full-length novel.  While the main story is complete there are many side questions left unanswered. Hopefully, Diane Dooley is working on more stories set in the Blue Galaxy universe.  

In Blue Galaxy Javan Rhodes is a starship captain who has taken an illegal but very lucrative mission.  He is to ask no questions while transporting someone to the outer colonies.  His passenger turns out to be a beautiful young woman who is going to an arranged marriage.  Nothing is as it seems and both Javan and Sola receives more than one surprise.
