Tratus: A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel by Veronica Scott

The Badari have a few weaknesses. One is that you are born Alpha. That works well if the Alpha is a good leader but not so well if he is not. That is what Tratus is facing as he tries to keep the pack safe. A hard job when the Alpha is putting the pack in danger. Then to complicate the issue Tratus finds his mate in one of the humans being held captive. Everything unwinds from there. I love how Tratus is so aware of what his mate needs and how strong his mate is when he is betrayed. A lot of tension and danger. It takes awhile to get everything straight and for Tratus to take his rightful place in the pack. Love this series. This was my main read as soon as it was released.

Holiday for the Alpha: A Badari Warriors Novella by Veronica Scott

Daegan needs a change and Flo knows just what to do to give it to him. Love the look at the two as they are off on their own. Flo really gave Daegan the change of location that he needed. Of course it did not all go as planned but the change kept it interesting. Nice side story in the Badari Warriors series.

Jamokan: A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel by Veronica Scott

Another Alpha bites the dust. Jamokan needs to change his thinking and who better to do that than a woman from Earth. Finding a mate is not easy and this journey is no different. There are things outside the norm as the two are first thrown together and then on the run. Loved how Rosemari Parcher used her time with humans and Badari to see things that need to be changed. Great addition to the story. The Khagrish have come new twists up their sleeves. They are becoming even more of a problem as the story arc progresses.

Sandara has a past that she just will not let go but now she has a new chance at a good life. Ivokk is the leader of the expedition to their old home world. Sandara is the one who checks the samples to find out why some of the Southern tripe are passing out. Plenty of attraction, danger and tension in this story. Also a big surprise brought on danger. Good story.

A nice addition to the series. Landon and Mandy both bring interesting skills and background to the Badari World. The danger and tension are there but not the overwhelming part of the story. That is the new background on the Badari and how it effects both Landon and Mandy. There is a new wrinkle in the story, one that might bring new danger in the future. Just have to wait and see what develops.

Daegan by Veronica Scott

I love how Veronica Scott keeps the Sectors New Allies series fresh and new. This is book 10 and the story is the same. Daegan and Flo have just met and are mates. OK that sounds dull but it is anything but. The setting, the conflict, the tension and the romance are all different from previous stories. Great addition to the story line and I see a lot of new possibilities with the action of Daegan and his pack.

Best thing after the two main characters - the hints about new characters and where the story arc will go in the future. Kierce is a new bread of Badari and he has to come to terms with what he can do. Elianna McNamee is a new character who is put into Kierce's cell. After the two are rescued Elianna's skills are vital to getting help from the Sector. This adds new and interesting characters while moving the plot forward. I loved Kierce and would love to have someone like him around.


Secrets Never Die by Melinda Leigh

Once again Cris Dukehart (Goodreads Author) (Narrator) does a great job. I love Morgan and Lance and look forward to their next adventure. As always danger stalks the story line as Morgan and Lance work to find a teenager and to prove he is innocent. There are some interesting new characters and a new possibility of a romance for Sharp. Another thrilling adventure that kept me listening.

I wondered how on earth Veronica Scott would give Gabe, a human male an HEA. Seems she had some interesting female characters up her sleeve. This adds even more interest to the Badari Warriors series. Gabe has always been a sightly larger than life side character and he lives up to that as he crashes near a unknown outpost. There is plenty of tension as the plot takes several hard turns. The romance is hot. The new characters unexpected. All in all great addition to the series.


Leverage in Death by J.D. Robb

Eve and Roarke are back working together to solve who is behind the bombing in several different locations. This is a very different track for the plot. Eve must find out who made men who had a normal happy life suddenly start killing themselves and other. There is someone behind these crimes and the fun is trying to match the clues before or as soon as Eve. Fun series that keeps its tension and romance going.

This is not the wild west but it is the edge of space and not the best posting for a deputy. Thelma Bach was top of her class but did not get a prime assignment. Instead she was sent to Saloon Sector but all was not lost. She had a plan and it was fun watching her work it. I loved the characters; especially the two AI's. Both added a nice spice to the mix. Of course her boss the very good looking boss, Sheriff Smith, is just an added bonus. Pick this up to find out how Thelma shows everyone that being top of the class was not a fluke and she will outsmart everyone. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.


Darik by Veronica Scott

Another important part of the world building happens in Darik. When Darik sees Nichole James he knows he must rescue her. That leads to a fast paced story line with action and danger. Darik and Nichole are great characters. Nichole is very strong and Darik just what she needs. This is a great addition to the story. It can stand alone but is best if read in order. Now waiting for the next book in the series.

Taura does not remember her past. She only remembers the torture she received before her rescue by Jadrian. Our band of humans and Badari are still in danger. They are still going out on raids to get supplies and to free captives. There is more interesting world building and back story coming as part of the plot in Jadrian. I really liked both Taura who refused to commit until she could remember and Jadrian who know she is his mate but continues to give her time to recover and remember. Several additional hooks for future directions are part of the story. I look forward to visiting with the Badari Warriors and their human colleagues some time in the future.


Always Her Wingman by Jessica E. Subject

This is Science Fiction Romance but it really has little Science Fiction in it. This is the first of this series I have read so I had no backstory or worldbuilding as I started reading. I found the story to be easy to read but it lacked the tension I am used to seeing in Jessica Subjects stories. All in all it was just a barely OK in my book.

Megan Garrison wakes up a captive of the Khagrish. Mateer is captured when trying to set up a rescue of the humans held by the Khagrish. Megan and Mateer become a team as they try to keep the other humans alive until they can be rescued. This is a typical alien mate story. It does tie in to the previous Sector books. This is not a trope that I really like so even though it is setting up a new story line it just is not my favorite. That said I will continue to follow the series.


What a Difference a Duke Makes by Lenora Bell

A Duke that thinks he cannot love and a governess who changes his mind. Add two children in need of love and acceptance and you have the start of a interesting story. There is great dialog, interesting action, a bit of a mystery and in the end two people who are made for each other. This was one Duke who really needed a school and found the right person to teach he the things he really needed to know.

I didn't think I would like this series so it took me awhile to give it a try. Turns out I was wrong, I do like the series. I thought it would be close in time to the Lost Fleet series but it is not. It is set many years before that series and it gives it a fresh feeling. I love the three main characters. Robert Geary, a young former junior fleet officer, Ninja, a computer hacker and Mele Darcy, a onetime enlisted Marine are on a planet that has just recently been colonized. When danger comes the three rise to the occasion. The back story is very well developed, the plot is not new but is very well done and the character development fits the story line. Several other characters are important at first but play a small part in the whole. They seem to be in line to play a more important role in future stories. I listed to this as a audio book and the reader did a great job on timing and voices.

Aydarr by Veronica Scott

I was disappointed when I started Aydarr. I though Oh No another alien abduction story. It is that but it had some interesting twists that kept it from being run of the mill. For one thing the main female character was a Sector solider at one time and she can take care of herself. Of course there is that alien she bonds with. She was abducted from the Sector and that is the tie in to the previous series set in the Sector. The abductors are another tie in as they are the same enemies from the sector series. There are some very interesting characters, a well developed plot and a very predictable romance.

What happens when everything you think you know turns out to be wrong. Seems that is true for both humans and the first and only aliens they have encountered. All changes when the crew of the White Raven find a ship that left Earth 500 years ago. One of the original crew is in cold sleep and when she wakes she has news and new technology that changes everything. Some things are solved, much is revealed and a lot is left to find out. Pratt has a contract for two more book set the Axiom universe. I for one am looking forward to returning and seeing what will happen next.


Eye of the Mother by Greta van der Rol
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Brent Walker and Tian Axmar are together almost by accident. Tian needs a ride off planet and Brent and his small freighter are available. Something bad is happening to both humans and Yrmaks. It is Tian's job to find out what. She and Brent work well together but Tian has secrets that mean she and Brent cannot stay together after the problem is solved. Look for a interesting twist at the end. I hope that means we will see more of the two. I alway like to see characters from previous stories in the Dryden Universe and one of my favorite Admirals plays a small part is Eye of the Mother. Hope to see more of him in the future as well.

Larissa Channer cannot get the fortune teller off of her mind. She is a woman who cannot tolerate any form of slavery so she decides to act to free Samell who is being held against his will. This is the first time we have a story that features a male who has been kidnapped and sold so his powerful empathic powers can be used for the profit of others. Larissa and Samell end up on a very dangerous journey. Change has arrived and Samell and his people have come under the protect. That protection just has to find the two. I loved how everything worked out for the two. This story helps put a period to this group of Sectors Romances. Like all the others in the series there is danger, tension and plenty of romance.

REVIEW:

I loved Pets in Space #1 and have been looking forward to #2.  I started this one with Susan Grant's story about Puppy, The Prince, The Pilot, and the Puppy.  Puppy was just a short cameo in her story where Bang-Bang got a human.  There was a promise that Puppy would also find a home and spark a romance.  I loved how he brought his two humans together.  After that I went for the stories set in worlds I had already been following.  

Next was Veronica Scott's Star Cruise: Songbird where I met some old friends and found some new ones.   This fit right into the series and I loved that the pet was a bird, a very interesting bird.

Then on to read Carol Van Natta's Pet Trade set in the Minder Universe.  This one was filled with pets and two wounded characters.  I love what has been created and really enjoyed meeting the pets and the characters.  

After that I read Cara Bristol's Rescued by the Cyborg, another of the worlds and authors that are a must buy for me.  This time there is a kitten who helps bring two people together.  Cara sent me a description to her story, an excerpt,and something about Cara,  all included below.

Before you start reading below I have to say there is so much more included in Pets in Space 2.  I have just mentioned the first four stories.  Each  story is a novella not a short story so I have not gotten to all the rest.  There are other stories by authors I have read and several stories by new to me authors.   There are great stories with interesting settings and a must read for Science Fiction Romance readers.

He ripped off the bow and peeled back the top. Inside, an angry, frightened kitten hissed. Jessamine’s cat had birthed a litter, and he recognized this baby by its gray coat, four white feet, and a blotch shaped like a star on its button nose.

Sighing, he reached into the carton.

The kitten growled and swiped its claws across his skin.

“Ow!” Guy yanked his hand back. The kitten leaped out and dove under the berth.

Great. Just great. How could his niece have done such a thing? She shouldn’t have boxed up a live animal—even if she did punch air holes in the carton. If she hadn’t contacted him and insisted he open the present, the kitten might have remained inside for quite a while.

In the corner of the container, he spotted a slip of paper, partially shredded. He unfolded it.

Love Across the Universe: Twelve Stories of Science Fiction Romance Set on Intergalactic Shores by Traci Douglass

A nice collection of Science Fiction Romance stories. They are a mix of different types so there should be something for everyone. I found most to be short story length with at least one novella length. A nice way to find new authors and see if you like their writing style. I found all to be very well written with a nice plot leading to romance.

Last Ship Off Polaris-G: A Central Galactic Concordance Novella by Carol Van Natta

Last Ship off Polaris-G has all the elements needed for a great Science Fiction Romance story. Set in the Galactic Concordance Universe the main female character is hiding her talents and the main male characters has gone it alone because he does not know how to handle his talent. Put them together with an old freighter and the need to escape a certain doom and danger filled with sparks make for a very good plot. I have loved all the Central Galactic Concordance stories. Each provides additional back story and world building with great characters and a unique plot line. A nice fit to the series.

Two Against the Stars: The Sectors SF Romance Series by Veronica Scott

Carialle is another of the females who have the power over others minds and she has just found a way to get free. I love Carialle and her sisters. They all have such power, are so giving and have a strong connection to nature. Marcus Valerian, a wounded Special Forces veteran, is in danger of losing his life and cannot save himself. Carialle puts herself at risk to save him. From there it is a race to stay ahead of the people who threaten them both. This is a fast paced story with tension, danger and romance. With strong character development, additional back story and world building this has everything you could want in a Science Fiction Romance. It is part of the Sectors AF Romance series and can stand alone but the enjoyment is doubled if you have read the previous books in the series.

Miriell is from a race with powers that can make a person do things they would never consider and that makes her a valuable pawn. She is a prisoner and forced to do things to keep her people safe. This time when she arrives she feel a connection and it is to someone who should not make her feel safe. Conor is the second in command to the boss but does not always act as he should. The action here is riveting and the characters up to carrying and keeping the story moving. If you think that you have met Miriell and her people before your may be right. Her people were introduced in a novella that appeared in a SFR collection. A great story that tied up the loose ends that that novella left.  I think the ending left wide open a new area for Scott to explore and place future stories in this series.


Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Noemi Vidal is a seventeen year old solider who is willing to die from her planet. Able is a construct - part flesh and part machine. The two are and should be enemies but a unexpected battle brings them together. I loved both characters. Able is so much more that what he was designed to be. Noemi changes as the two of them work to stop a war that has been going on for ages. This is almost a romance as Able comes to love Noemi but it stops short when they both go their own way after a very exciting adventure. This was one I could not put down. I loved the premise and how Gray used it to keep the story filled with great characters and exciting action. I recommend this for any SciFi fan. His Last Rodeo by Claire McEwen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tyler and Kit are old friends who reconnect when he buys the bar where she works. They used to be friends and as the story progresses that friendship returns and becomes more. There was a very nice progression of friends to lovers as the story progresses. Both Kit and Tyler have some issues that also kept the story moving. I loved Kit and how she stuck to her guns. Tyler was very strong - strong enough to face and work on his issues that were hard to admit. I was expecting a very different ending and was surprised on how everything worked out.

The Rise of Io by Wesley Chu

This is a set up for new action in the series that started with The Lives of Tao. We still see Cameron Tan but he is not the main characters. That is Ella Patel, a thief and con artiste who finds herself with a body swapping alien, one of the Quasing and not one of the important ones. Io has chosen Ella and Ella is not that happy about it. That starts a story that is filled with danger, twist, turns and excitement. The plot revolves around a new project in India and it drives the action. However the main focus is getting to know Ella, Io and the world they inhabit. There is a lot of mystery about Io while Ella has to change how she has lived most of her life. This is a fun read with plenty of suspend and a real cliff hanger at the end. This will stand alone even though some of the world building and back story happened in the books about Tao.


Forsaken Skies by D. Nolan Clark
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Have you ever read a book that just seemed to go on forever? If so you may feel that way about Forsaken Skies. I certainly did. It was not because it was a bad story. Quite the opposite. It is a very well crafted story full of interesting characters, great backstory and excellent world building. It also had very long passages full of explanation about the mechanics behind the technology. That was also very well done and easy to understand. However, that part of the book was what made me feel it went on forever. If you like that you will give this five stars. As I want to get on with the action and the explanations slowed the story line down for me it is a four star book. This is the first book in a series and I will read book two. Why? Because the problem in book one is very far reaching. Even though they did what they started out to do the solution brought on a much larger problem. So stay tuned.

This is a must read for all Science Fiction Romance fans. The stories in this collection are all outstanding. Most are by authors I knew but a few introduced me to some new authors. I had seen reviews of stories by S.E. Smith but this was the first time to read anything by her. Susan Grant takes us back to Baresh. She gives us a story about a great couple brought together by Bang-Bang the dog. See if you ask what happened to a minor characters. If you do you will find out that the character is going to get his own story. Cara Bristol bring us another cyborg who does not know he is ready for love until it smacks him in the face. My favorite is Star Cruise: Stowaway by Veronica Scott. I really enjoyed visiting the Nebula Zephyr again. It was nice to meet the new characters and get to visit with the ones for Star Curise: Outbreak. Pauline Baird Jones is anther of my favorite authors and she has a real dragon as the pet in her story. Alexis Glynn Latner, Lea Kirk and Carysa Locke were the other three who I had never read but really enjoyed getting to know. I read a book by Laurie A Green several years ago and I got a re-introduction in Pets in Space. This was a can't put down read for me and I think it will be for all of you.

I love slow burn romances and the one in Star Cruise: Outbreak has just the right pace to feel real. Emily and Jake have something of a shared past and when they meet again working on the luxurious interstellar cruise liner Nebula Zephyr they find that there is an attraction. There is a medical mystery on the ship and the two have to work closely to find a solution. A very well done addition to the Sectors SF Romance series. One of the nice things about this series is the fact that each book is very different and each book is a stand alone with only faint hints about previous books.



Rogues by Amy J. Murphy

Rogues follows Erelah, Jon's sister, with just brief glimpses of Jon and Sela. There are some new and interesting characters as well as Erelah's old enemy in a new form. This one is really a middle book as it does not resolve anything. It does set up the action in the next book. I like the story line. Jon and Sela are great characters and Erelah adds another interesting character to keep the story going. There is the hint of a romance for Erelah. The relationship between Jon and Sela is still my favorite part of the books. Start with book one in the Allies and Enemies series for the most reading enjoyment.


Warrior Wench by Marie Andreas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Warrior Wench is not a person but a space ship. That ship is full of great characters many with their own backstory. That and world building are a big part of the story. There are plots within plots as the Warrior Wench travels on different missions. There is a lot of action and some mystery with the characters. Don't look for a resolution to the story. The end is a bit of a cliff hanger.

Assassin Queen by Anna Kashina

All of the key players are here in the final book of the Majat Code. Kara has been marked in the last battle with the Kaddim Brothers and that is at the heart of this final battle. That mark can turn her to the other side and there does not seem to be any way to stop that from happening. I loved how every character on the good side worked so hard to win that final battle and how everything turned out to be for the best for every characters. There is a lot of action, tension and danger in the book. It all weaves into a wonderful ending for everyone. Start at the beginning for maximum enjoyment of this interesting and different series.


Path of Fate by Diana Pharaoh Francis

This is a re-issue of the Path series by Francis. I loved it the first time I read it and loved it even more this time. Reisil is such a strong character. No matter what happens she does not let it get her down. All of the back story and world building are part of the story line and never interfere with the flow of the story. While there is a conclusion to the plot in the book it is easy to tell that Reisil has much more of a story to tell. There is action, adventure, a little romance, betrayal and an all around good story line to keep interest high.


Lady of the Star Wind by Veronica Scott

Sandy and Mark are two great characters who make a choice that will change their lives. They have a history but it is 20 years in the past. There is a lot they have to work out and they have to do it in a very different world from the one they know. This is very different from previous Sector Romances. It is a very interesting mix of fantasy and scifi. Look for outstanding world building, great characters, and a romance that spans over 20 years.
