Musing Mondays, April 9, 2012

First of all, Happy Easter! :D
This week’s musing {thanks to this article} asks…
What do you think are the top 5 books every woman should read? (And for the men who might be playing today: What do you think are the top 5 books every man should read?)

This one is going to take some thought.  I have a early morning doctor's appointment so I am posting the question and will get back with the answer later today.  Come back then to see what I have to say.

Now I am back and having had time to think about this I am going to give it my own twist.  I think that women need strong role models.  I read more fiction than non-fiction.  I also read a a lot of Science Fiction and have since I was a child.  I always looked of strong women in the SciFi books.  For a long time there just were not very many.  That has changed for the better and now there are several series and authors that write Science Fiction with strong female characters.  For those of us who prefer fiction here is a list of must read Science Fiction books and/or series with strong female characters that can serve as role models for those of us both young and old.

The Confederation Series by Tanya Huff - Start with Valor's Choice

The Alien Novels by Gini Koch - Start with Touched by an Alien - Kitty Katt is one of the strongest female character to come alone anytime.

Finders Keepers by Liannea Sinclair - Read any of her SFR novels and you will find a strong female character at the center of each book.

The Serrano Legacy series by Elizabeth Moon - Start with Hunting Party

The Honor Harrington series by David Weber - Start with On Basilisk Station This is the only series written by a male author.

These are my top five.  There are others so add any you have when you leave a comment.

I have to agree with the strong woman comment..but I think we should also read books with strong men and strong young people and weak people who fail and learn from it..actually, I think we should read all sorts of things!
