Chameleon and Conquest: Earth by Angelique Anjou

Chameleon is novella length story set on a world where human have been allowed by the natives of the planet to settle in specific places. They are also forbidden to go anywhere else but Cara, a young woman routinely visits one of the forbidden forests. As a young girl she had saved what she thought was a griffin from a trap set in the forest and had sneaked him home to visit. What she had really saved was one of the shape shifting natives and therein lies the story. Chameleon is an enjoyable short read.

Angelique Anjou packaged the first three chapters of Conquest: Earth at the end of Chameleon and I was hooked after reading them. Conquest: Earth is novel length. The Conquest part is not what you expect. As one of the side characters said; they have certainly come to conquer, just not what everyone thinks. An all make group has been sent to set up a colony and first lands on Earth. The immediate reaction is fear of an invasion. Realizing that Earth has a dominant native race they move and start their colony on Mars. Their race has a tradition of stealing their brides and they make everything worse by stealing Earth women. This is another light fun read. Get both Chameleon and Conquest: Earth if you are looking for entertaining Furutistic Romance.

Conquest: Earth is listed as erotica, but there is more sex and more explicit sex in most mainstream romance novels published today. Chameleon and Conquest: Earth both have a good story line, there is more story than sex and the sex fits as part of both stories.

Beyond the Rain by Jess Granger

It is always a treat to find a new author that writes a good futuristic romance. Beyond the Rain is the first published book by Jess Granger and it is just such a find. This is the story of two very different people who are thrown together and must help each other in the struggle to survive. They find that their differences are what help bind them together. Beyond the Rain is set on a series of complex new alien worlds, each with its own unique culture. The world building is good; the pace is fast and the plot well developed. In Beyond the Rain the love story is blended into the action producing a very satisfying whole.

From the ending it looks like there will be at least one more book from Jess Granger set in this universe. I will be looking forward to the release.

Countdown by Michelle Maddox

Futuristic Action Romance

Countdown was a P.E.A.R.L. finalist in 2008. None of the libraries in my area had Countdown and it was not in stock at any of the bookstores. I added it to my last Amazon order and it came last week. Countdown was written by Michelle Maddox and published by Shomi (www.shomifiction.com) in 2008.

Shomi calls Countdown an action romance and it lives up to its label. As the book starts Kira, a small time thief, and Rogan, a convicted mass murderer, are chained to a wall in a dark room. When the lights come on they find that each has a key to the other’s chain. They have 60 seconds to exchange keys and escape the room or they will die. That task was Level One of the Countdown game and the start of non-stop fast-paced action. Kira and Rogan have to work together to survive all six levels of the Countdown. In addition, they have to outsmart a computer that has taken over the game and wants to take over the world. There is fact-paced action, love and betrayal as they work to survive the game. The need to shut down the computer and end the game forever adds another layer of suspense to the story. Kira and Rogan are both strong characters and neither is entirely what they seem. There is not a lot of world building but that does not detract from the story as the game and the computer are the important elements of the book.

If you like action and romance this is a good book to read. I can see why it was nominated for the P.E.A.R.L.

Driven by Eve Kenin

Futuristic Romance

Driven by Eve Kenin was a surprise. I had started another book published under the Shomi imprint and put it down unfinished. When I saw Driven on the new books shelf at the library I almost passed it up because of the publisher. I glad I didn’t. Eve Kenin has written a fast paced, action packed adventure set in future when people are trying to survive in the frozen Northern Waste. Raine Bowen is a strong heroine and Wizard is just the right mix of male strength and vulnerability. The book caught me from the beginning. Pick it up for a great enjoyable read.

Driven was published by Shomi in 2007. If you liked Driven check out Hidden the second book in the series. Eve Kenin is a pen name for Eve Silver.

The Prize By Debra Doggett

Futuristic Romance

I loved this book. Debra Doggett has written a beautifull paced book with the right amout of tension between Cardis (the female) and Stellan (the male). Stellan is a native of a backward planet where the spaceship Cardis is traveling on crashes. Using a tradition from Cardis's planet Stellan has three days to convince her take him as her lifetime mate. The premise is not new but the author gives it fresh new life. (more)

Both characters have issues that are easy to identify with. I hated for the book to end and I hope this is just the first book Debra Dogget publishes.
