Books Beginnings on Friday October 28, 2011

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Katy from A Few More Pages. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

Here is my book beginning only mine is the first few sentences:

From The Black Lung Captain by Chris Wooding:

"Darian Frey was a man who understood the value of a tactical retreat.  It was a gambler's instinct, a keen appreciation of the odds that told him when to take a risk and when to bail out."

This caught me as soon as I read it.  I found The Black Lung Captain at The Tattered Cover on my last trip to Denver and had to give it a try.

I haven't heard of this book, but the beginning grabbed me. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

Love the pix of the cats with the books!

This looks really neat! Is it sci fi/fantasy -esque?

He sounds like a wise man to retreat. I do wonder about the book's title and how the captain came to be called such a name.

I love your book kitties. I have a pair of bookends just like the one in the first photo.

Hi Jo,

Thanks for stopping by Fiction Books earlier and leaving comment, it is always good to talk with new people.

Fantasy/Sci-Fi, is not really one of my favourite genres, so I have to admit that I wouldn't probbably be rushing out to buy this book anytime soon.

The first lines are very intriguing however and from looking at the full synopsis sounds like it is going to be a fun, action-packed read, so I hope that you enjoy.

I had to check out the author, just to see whether all his books were similar in their style and he certainly has some great stuff out there. He has a new book due out in 2012 which sounds very spooky, titled 'Pale', which it may be worth you checking out.

Have a great weekend.
