Book Beginnings on Friday June 1, 2012

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include  include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

Children of the Night (Diana Tregarde, #2)My book this week is Children of the Night by Mercedes Lackey, a book that I checked out at the library this week.   This is book two in the Diana Tregarde series.  I have been curious about this series since I heard that Lackey got death threats from a fan after she quit writing the series because of poor sales.  There were only 3 books written.  She quit attending any events because of the threats.  I am no sure whether she attends now or not.

Here is the beginning:

"Diana Tregarde sighed, propped her chin on her right hand and leaned on the countertop.  of all the jobs I could have taken, working in an occult supple store is not one I'd have chosen on my one."

I am now very curious about the series...and about what happened to the author.

Thanks for sharing, and enjoy.

I am about 50 pages into the book. It is very well written. I thinks she was just ahead of her time when she wrote this in 1990.

What a thoroughly interesting anecdote that is! Wouldn't it be easier to write more books? :)

Agreeing with Julia here, that is surely the safest option. But I like the F56, it's intriguing! I'm an old follower. Hop on over if you have the time:

I really liked this series. I am sorry that some fans couldn't distinguish fiction from reality and made it hard for her. I hope you like the book too. Happy reading1

Wow, that is quite scary. Some people just take things a little too far. Interesting beginning. Hope you're enjoying it. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.

Wow, death threats. That's not cool. I hope you enjoy the series. Have a nice weekend.

Wow...death threats?! Some people definitely get too involved in things.

I love the beginning....I definitely wouldn't choose working at an occult store either.

Thanks for stopping by mine.

It's scary to be a public figure! That's an intriguing opener.

That's a scary thought. Of course when you consider "fan" is short for fanatic I guess it is to be expected. The beginning does make me want to read more.

That's a horrible story about the author!

Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!
