Book Beginnings on Friday July 13, 2012

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include  include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

My book beginning is from Dodger by Terry Terry Pratchett.

"I which we meet our hero and the hero meets an orphan of the storm and comes face to face with Mister Charlie a gentleman known a bit of a scribbler."

Dodger is due out in September.  Here is the Goodreads summary.

A storm. Rain-lashed city streets. A flash of lightning. A scruffy lad sees a girl leap desperately from a horse-drawn carriage, in a vain attempt to escape her captors. Can the lad stand by and let her be caught again? Of course not, because he's ...Dodger.

This sounds good. I've only read one Pratchett book (Unseen Academicals) so far. That one was okay...I'm wondering if this would be even better.

Here's my Friday Memes.

I feel like I should read Pratchett as well, and I wonder how this spin-off of Oliver Twist will turn out.

Here's my Book Beginning.

I have never finished anything by Pratchett though I have started a few. I hope you enjoy this one. Happy reading!

My husband is a great Terry Pratchett fan, I not so much. I started one book and gave up after ten pages.
This beginning sounds like from one of those classic where they always recount the chapter at first. Love it!

Very clever! Too clever by half, though? That's always the risk with funny books.

Rayme Waters – the author of my Book Beginnings book – guest posted on Rose City Reader today, explaining how the heroines of 19th Century literature inspired her debut novel, The Angels' Share.

It will give you a much different idea about the book than the opening sentence.

Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!
