Book Beginnings on Friday December 30, 2011

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Katy from A Few More Pages. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

I am readin Catherine Asaro's Carnelians, the lastest book in her Skolian Empire series.
Prologue:
It was one of the most effective weapons known.
It didn't explode.  It shot no projectiles.  It didn't spread chemical, biological, or physical poison  It created not flames or shrapnel. It could being down empires."
I love this series and Carnelians brings together many of the elements from previous books.  Carnelians is a combination of Space Opera and Science Fiction Romance.  I purchased it in ebook form from Baen.

This one sounds exciting! I like how the opener leads us to what the weapons do, by eliminating what they don't do.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jo,

Although this is probably not a book that I would choose to read, I have to say that those first lines were very intriguing and would make me want to read on, if that was all there was to go on and there wasn't a synopsis.

I would really need to know what this fantastic weapon is, especially as it sounds so benign and then we discover that it can in fact topple empires!

Have a great weekend and all Best Wishes for a Very Happy New Year.

I would like to delve into the science fiction genre. I'm just starting to really enjoy fantasy.
